Did you know that 1 in 4 automobile accidents are a result of cell phone use while driving? According to the National Safety Council, cell phone use while driving accounts for more than 1.6 million automobile accidents, resulting in 330,000 injuries, and 3,154 fatalities each year. Using a cell phone while driving is so dangerous, it’s actually six times more likely to result in an accident than intoxicated driving.
By taking your eyes off the road, even for five seconds to respond to a text or check your email, you are putting yourself and others at significant risk. This is especially important to remember in active work zones where drivers may be subject to sudden lane changes, sudden speed changes, sudden lane closures, and an active work crew. Stay alert and stay safe by keeping your eyes on the road, not on your cell phone.
